Market Opening/Closing Times

If you’re interested in buying and selling stocks, it’s important to know when the stock market is open for business. The times will vary depending on the market, but typically markets will only be open on weekdays:

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), and NASDAQ: normal trading hours from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The London Stock Exchange (TLSE) and FTSE: opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m. local time with no lunch period.

The markets may also close early in the case of certain holidays – whether national or international. For example, many markets will close on Christmas, and in America, markets close for holidays like Martin Luther King day.

At Wombat, trades are placed in windows – trades can be made at any time but they won’t be processed until the next trading window rolls around, which for us, is Monday-Friday at 3pm.

The value of investments can fall as well as rise and you could get back less than you invest. If you’re not sure about investing, seek independent advice.
